Stewardship – St Mary’s

During Lent the Stewardship Team and the clergy asked you to consider prayerfully your financial contribution to the mission, ministry and day to day running of the church. We are now asking for you to turn that prayerful consideration into action.

At the back of church are Parish Giving Packs. If you are a regular standing order or envelope giver there is hopefully a named pack for you. There are also blank packs available if you cannot find a named one. Apologies if we have missed anyone.

St Anne's Charity of the month, June

practical actionSt Anne's will be making special collections throughout June for Practical Action. There is a display at the back of the church about Practical Action's work and a plate for donations on the welcome desk.

Malawi Container

A big thank you to everyone who gave so generously for the Diocesan container going to Malawi. We took 35 ft3 of goods to load from Moseley Churches.

Conan’s Ordination

Saturday 1 July, 11:00am, Birmingham Cathedral

There are a few spare tickets for Conan’s priesting ordination. Entrance is by ticket only and if anybody from the congregation wants to go tickets can be collected from the parish office. Anyone going would also be very welcome to join Conan after the service in the first floor function room of the Old Joint Stock for a little celebration.

St Mary's June Charity

corumvlogoDuring the months of June, October and December, the Hospitality Team have kindly offered to donate all monies raised from refreshments to one of the charities supported by St Mary's church.

This month donations will go to Coram Voice. We will also be holding a cake sale in aid of the charity on Sunday 25 June after the 10:00 a.m. service. Please let Angela Brown know if you are able to make a cake. Do read the charitable giving noticeboard or click on the logo on the right, which gives you information about the work that Coram Voice does.

Christian Aid Prayer Strings

Please return your red prayer strings to church by Sunday 11 June. Collection bowls are on the Welcome desks.

Many thanks, Caroline.

Oberammergau 2020

oberammagauI would like to lead a pilgrimage to see the Oberammergau Passion Play in July 2020. I need to know if enough people are interested at this stage to make it a viable group booking. The trip would be by luxury coach from Moseley if we can get enough folk to fill it. The tour is operated by Leger Holidays.

A seven day (six nights) tour with three nights in Austria, two in Belgium and one in Oberammergau including all travel, 4/5 star accommodation and a ticket to the play will cost around £1,225 per person based on two people sharing a room. Single supplement is £259. Please note that this will be post Brexit. Please let Brenda know if you are interested either by phone or email by the end of the month.

Vocations

A small group has been meeting in the Benefice to support those exploring vocations, whether that be to authorised lay ministry, ordained ministry, a religious order such as the Third Order of Saint Francis, or to something else. The group next meets on Monday 12 June at 7:30 p.m. If you would be interested in coming along, please contact Hazel. Complete confidentiality is respected in the group.

Prayer Circle

lectiodivinaTuesday 6 June, 7:30 p.m., St Mary’s West Room

The next meeting of the Prayer Circle will be on the first Tuesday of the month, as it is near Pentecost. Peter Alcock will guide us in lectio divina for Pentecost entitled “Standing in God’s Holy Fire”.

(In Christianity, Lectio Divina (Latin for "Divine Reading") is a traditional Benedictine practice of scriptural reading, meditation and prayer intended to promote communion with God and to increase the knowledge of God's Word. It does not treat Scripture as texts to be studied, but as the Living Word.)

Christian Aid – Thanks

Thanks to all who helped so generously with Christian Aid week. The house to house collections went well with a few new volunteers who along with our reliable regulars were much appreciated. Sadly only a few of the five envelope packs were taken this year. We'll be trying again next year in the hope that again will each one of us will be able to do something to help those in desperate need. Final counting to be done on Monday 29 May so please make sure I have your envelopes by then. Grateful thanks to YSMAA on a very successful Big Brekkie and to Elizabeth Leicester who had a tea party.
