St Mary's June Charity

corumvlogoDuring the months of June, October and December, the Hospitality Team have kindly offered to donate all monies raised from refreshments to one of the charities supported by St Mary's church.

This month donations will go to Coram Voice. We will also be holding a cake sale in aid of the charity on Sunday 25 June after the 10:00 a.m. service. Please let Angela Brown know if you are able to make a cake. Do read the charitable giving noticeboard or click on the logo on the right, which gives you information about the work that Coram Voice does.

Please return your red prayer strings to church by Sunday 11 June. Collection bowls are on the Welcome desks.

Many thanks, Caroline.

A small group has been meeting in the Benefice to support those exploring vocations, whether that be to authorised lay ministry, ordained ministry, a religious order such as the Third Order of Saint Francis, or to something else. The group next meets on Monday 12 June at 7:30 p.m. If you would be interested in coming along, please contact Hazel. Complete confidentiality is respected in the group.

Prayer Circle

lectiodivinaTuesday 6 June, 7:30 p.m., St Mary’s West Room

The next meeting of the Prayer Circle will be on the first Tuesday of the month, as it is near Pentecost. Peter Alcock will guide us in lectio divina for Pentecost entitled “Standing in God’s Holy Fire”.

(In Christianity, Lectio Divina (Latin for "Divine Reading") is a traditional Benedictine practice of scriptural reading, meditation and prayer intended to promote communion with God and to increase the knowledge of God's Word. It does not treat Scripture as texts to be studied, but as the Living Word.)

Christian Aid – Thanks

Thanks to all who helped so generously with Christian Aid week. The house to house collections went well with a few new volunteers who along with our reliable regulars were much appreciated. Sadly only a few of the five envelope packs were taken this year. We'll be trying again next year in the hope that again will each one of us will be able to do something to help those in desperate need. Final counting to be done on Monday 29 May so please make sure I have your envelopes by then. Grateful thanks to YSMAA on a very successful Big Brekkie and to Elizabeth Leicester who had a tea party.

Ask Mark Simons for more information or if you want to help.

Book of the term

falling upwardsFalling Upward, a spirituality for the two halves of life by Richard Rohr (available from Amazon).

In this book, Fr. Richard Rohr, founder of the Centre for Action and Contemplation, takes the reader on a journey of exploration of how the heartbreaks and disappointments of life can be stepping stones into the spiritual joys that the second half of life has in store for us. There will be an opportunity to discuss the book with others on the evening of Tuesday 25 July.
