Follow the star…

The prayer suggestions below are offered to you in the hope that you may be able to take a moment each day during Advent to pray. The Gospel nativity stories tell us that wise men journeyed to the place of Jesus’ birth guided by a star; the themes in this year’s Advent Prayer Calendar encourage us to journey around our Benefice in our prayers, guided by God’s spirit. You may like to light a candle as you pray. You can find further suggestions for Advent on the back of this Prayer Calendar.

Other ideas you may like to try out during Advent:

Reverse Advent Calendar

Set out a box or basket and each day of Advent add to it a non-perishable food or hygiene item or cleaning product. When the basket is full deliver it to your nearest food bank.

Family Time

Light an Advent candle or wreath each evening and share family stories. Finish with a prayer of thanks for the gift of family and the time of preparation for Christmas.

Watch the Night Sky: on a clear night get the children outside and have a look at the stars. How many can you see? Were some of these stars shining over Bethlehem all those years ago? Why do you think the wise men in the bible story made that journey to see Jesus?

Bless Your Neighbours

Bake a few batches of Christmas biscuits, wrap them up in festive paper and give them to the neighbours on your street.

Embrace the Middle East Daily Advent emails

Sign up for daily emails during Advent to help you reflect and prepare for Christmas, with voices from Christians in the Middle East and here in the UK. ‘Embrace the Middle East’ has been one of St Anne’s charities for the last two years, so this is a good resource to help us pray with them and for them.
