Choirs Newsletter, 17 September 2016

Please excuse the late arrival of this mail – life has been taken up with ensuring Tuesday’s Schola Cantorum Concert went well.

It did – excellently so with a large, appreciative audience! Thanks so much to those of who were able to come and support and especially to Phil & Pam Hall, Mark Simons and Neil Greenhalgh who helped on the door, with programmes and with serving interval refreshments.

The Director and all members of the group were delighted with the welcome they received in Moseley, the hospitality and the warmth of their reception.

Singers, thank you for your efforts at the 3D service the other Thursday. I’ve received a nice card of thanks to you all from Liz Howlett, the organiser. She also forwarded this mail received from a member of the congregation:

“I attended last night’s 3d service and as always was really well looked after. Welcoming and helpful just a couple of their many traits. Whenever I visit the cathedral I always experience feeling fulfilled and full of joy. I leave feeling peace full of thanks and upbeat after the wonderful choirs singing :) cannot speak highly enough :)”

A very warm welcome to Hannah who joined us for rehearsal for the first time on Thursday this week. You’re very welcome and we hope you’ll enjoy singing with us.

Tomorrow (Sunday) Robed Choir sing with our youngest choristers for the “Blessing of the Backpacks” School service. (Rehearse 9.30am sharp)

Singers cover Evensong (Rehearse 5.30pm)

Saturday 24 September: we are delighted on two fronts: firstly, to welcome Nick Lampert (Flute) who will play for our Saturday Morning Coffee Concert at 11.00am next Saturday, September 24th; secondly – and more importantly – that he will be accompanied by our very own Bob Meikle making his first foray back into the world of music after his recent health issues. Bob, it’ll be a real delight to have you back on the piano stool. Thank you so much – I hope that everyone will make a very special effort to support Bob and Nick next Saturday and to bring friends with you.

Note that we are due to lead the RSCM Annual Service and Awards on SATURDAY OCTOBER 15th at Birmingham Cathedral. Please put the date into diaries and please ensure we have a good turnout. There is a note-learning rehearsal in the morning (11.00am) for those who would value it and a main rehearsal in the afternoon for the service at 3.30pm. John Pryer will be at the Organ.

On Remembrance Sunday, 13 November we shall have an afternoon workshop from 2.00pm – 5.00pm for visitors and the home team on Fauré “Requiem” which will form the basis of the Evening Service at 6.30pm.

Saturday 26 November will be the Church’s CHRISTMAS FAIR and the Singers and Choir will provide seasonal music as the Coffee Concert that day: 11.00-12.00.

More anon, I’m sure!

All the best,
Mick
