Choirs Newsletter, 29 September 2016

Very grateful thanks to Bob Meikle and Nick Lampert for their Coffee Concert last Saturday morning! A brilliant display of varied music – thanks also to all who came and swelled the throng in the audience. There was an excellent turnout to make Bob’s and Nick’s efforts worthwhile.

Saturday 15 October RSCM Annual Festival Service this year in St Philip’s Cathedral, Colmore Row. The rehearsals are: 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. / 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. with the service at 3:30 p.m. Please come to as much as you can of this. We always supply a good lead to the rest of the Choirs present. It’d be great to do the same again this year.

Sunday 30 October Notice that there’s a Joint Service in the morning (fifth Sunday) and NO Evening Service at St Mary’s as it’s the annual service for bereaved families in the more intimate surrounding of St. Anne’s. There may be a need for some singers for this but, if so, I’ll ask for volunteers!

Sunday 13 November REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY WORKSHOP: FAURÉ REQUIEM 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. followed by Tea and the Evening Service at 6:30 p.m. I do hope that we’ll field a good team for this and support our visiting singers.

Saturday 26 November, 11:00 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. The next Saturday Coffee Concert will be … ourselves, Singers and Robed Choir in the context of the St Mary’s Christmas Fair. Please mark the date into calendars.

Sunday 11 December Note that Confirmation Service is joint. A full turnout from both Choirs would be appreciated.

We’ve changed our practice schedule for Trebles this term:

  • The junior Trebles (Y2+) attend the Tuesday practices from 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. and the first Sunday of each month (NOTE: That’s THIS Sunday for Harvest Festival!)
  • The senior Trebles (Y4+) attend EACH Friday Practice from 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m., not just the one before they sing: that would give hardly any time to learn anything!

I believe that there are some younger members of our congregation who would like to start singing with us – we may have to inaugurate a separate toddler session. Watch this space!

All the best,
Mick
