Dear Friends,

To the worshipping communities of St Anne’s and St Mary’s

As part of their role to ensure we have the right infrastructure to enable us to serve our congregations and the wider community in both ministry and mission, the PCCs have created a new full-time paid post of Benefice Support Manager. This will be a strategic post that will help us through our current process of evolution and establish a firm foundation to serve the benefice as we continue to move forward together.

A review of current practice identified that Revd Hazel spends a lot of her time managing the day-to-day administration of the benefice. This is due both to the increasing demands being placed on staff and also the complexity of many of the tasks. The PCCs rightly felt that this is unacceptable as it is taking the associate vicar away from her pastoral role within the benefice and reducing our collective capacity to offer ministry. The development of the Benefice Support Manager post at full time hours would ensure that the changing needs of the Benefice and the clergy will be met.

In creating this new post, it sadly became clear that the current part-time Benefice Administrator post would unavoidably become redundant. The PCCs have been engaged in a period of consultation with our current Administrator, Brenda Johnson, to explore if there was an alternative to this outcome. We were unable to identify a viable alternative. Consequently Brenda has been served a notice of redundancy. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Brenda for the cheerful and helpful way in which she has gone about her work and for the contribution she has made in improving the state of our administration. I would also like to thank Church of England Birmingham’s Human Resources Director, Dr Jan Smart, for her guidance throughout.

Please pray for Brenda during this time – and for the PCCs as we advertise and interview for the new post in due course. This change will add approximately £9K to our regular outgoings at a time when planned income has dropped. If anyone feels that they would like to help financially at this strategic point in our growth and development, please speak to one of the churchwardens or to St Mary’s Treasurer, Paul Chew.

With prayerful best wishes,

The Reverend Duncan Strathie
Vicar of Moseley
